“I always come away from an evening in your presence hyped up, as if your energies and commitments were a contagious disease and I had fallen ill from it. I think if someone ever took a Kirlian photograph ofyour anatomy you’d short circuit the film.”—Clyde Lynds28Clyde Lynds & DWB“In 1985, eleven years after the purchase of ‘Spectral Wind,’ I bought ‘Cobalt Blue’ directly from the artist. Price was the same, but no discount. This was a piece that Clyde designed based upon my urging him to design pieces that could go into public spaces, where you didn’t have to turn out the lights completely in order to see the piece. Because you can’t turn out the lights in a library or an airport or a shopping center. And so he did this and we had it in a shopping center, and it was reasonably successful. Not nearly as good as if it was completely dark, but at least good enough to see. And you cansee the steps, or changes that Clyde made in his work over the eln period. This piece is much brighter, easier to see, and moves more quickly. When you go into a public space, I explained to Clyde, the general public comes through quickly, they’re there for another reason, so they’ll glance at your work. If you can hold their attention for a few minutes that’s the bestyou can expect. I think this piece does that. Among other things, it seems to indicate that you’re looking at a city from an airplane late at night. others have other interpretations such as an airport. When I went over it with the artist, he just smiled and never did explain what he thought he was describing. If he had to do that he didn’t have to make the piece, he insisted.”eCh RightvapetionFyealusr
