“That was a very important show because it happened at a time when there was a certain hiatus in what was going on in the art scene. It was right on West Broadway and happened to hit a moment when there wasn’t much else going on, and it got a lot of attention and was even rated, I think, the best show of its kind for the season. I forget exactly what its bragging rights were, but it really was the first time that the art world in general got a focused look at what David was doing. They rented the ground floor of the building at 420 West Broadway, which was the building where Castelli had his gallery on the fourth floor.
